Motorsport Memories – Dynamic Duels
This classic calendar is a collage of epic Grand Prix battles and rivalries from the past 50 years.
Enriched with stunning photographs from six leading European photo studios and informative captions, re-live some of the greatest moments in motor racing.
Cover shows Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost battle in the rain at the 1993 European Grand Prix. The first lap of this race, held at Donington in the English midlands, is considered by many to be the greatest opening lap in history.
The magic of Juan Manuel Fangio was on display at the mighty Nurburgring, in the 1957 German Grand Prix. His greatest and final win saw him hunt down Ferrari drivers Mike Hawthorn and Peter Collins in the closing laps.
Jackie Stewart celebrated the first of his three championships by barely beating championship rival and friend Jochen Rindt at Monza, in the 1969 Italian Grand Prix. In 1971 it was another British driver, Peter Gethin, who scored a close win over Ronnie Peterson in what was then the fastest and closest finish in Grand Prix racing.
The famous rivalries of the seventies are also presented in beautiful color images. Niki Lauda and Emerson Fittipaldi clash at the 1974 Race of Champions, Brands Hatch.
Mario Andretti and James Hunt are seen battling at Anderstorp, in the 1977 Swedish Grand Prix; this was the race where Andretti ran out of petrol with only few laps remaining. His misery was French glory as Jacques Laffite in a Ligier-Matra scored the first ever all-French victory in Formula 1 history.
Some of the other major Dynamic Duels include Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell at Osterreichring, in the 1987 Austrian Grand Prix.
The incredible last lap, last corner victory by Jochen Rindt over Jack Brabham, in the 1970 Monaco Grand Prix.
Mike Hawthorn and Stirling Moss in the final race of the 1958 season, the Moroccan Grand Prix at Casablanca, where Santa Monica’s Phil Hill played a supporting role and helped Ferrari teammate Hawthorn to become the first British world champion.
Dijon, 1979, the duel of duels, shows the protagonists battling under a beautiful Gitanes dancing “gypsy” billboard.
